The Big Picture
Society calls it self defense, but it is really self preservation! Your safety is everything and you owe it to yourself to be able to avoid, evade, escape, and, when required, incapacitate an attacker. Having awareness of your surroundings and knowing the tell tale signs of predatory personalities is the first step in protecting yourself and it can be learned quickly and easily. True, there are attackers who you just can't avoid, but shouldn't you avoid every other person with bad intentions that you can? We teach avoidance first day and throughout your training. We teach avoidance and evade the first class so you have the knowledge to prevent danger and to immediately become safer. Our first goal is to show you how to identify and stay away from anyone who would harm you. Escape and Survive Our second goal is ensure you can escape. There may come a time when you can't avoid or evade. When an aggressor has managed to grab hold of you the ability to escape can be life saving. Our training simulates real life situations that you could encounter. No passive partners here, you will have to truly escape. It sounds harsh until you realize that making it as real as possible puts you in the best position to preserve your life in a real world situation. You will hear it said many times in sessions there is no perfect technique or silver bullet to escape. The situation will dictate what method you use and your knowledge will determine your success. We take you through multiple scenarios trying different defenses to prepare you for an event we hope never happens. But if it happens you will have the tools to break free from an attacker's grasp. Do versus Think Right now, as you sit reading this page, if attacked would you Do or would you have to think about what to do? In our minds we all think we are ready for anything. The internal conversation of "if he comes near me I'm going to kick him in the groin" soothes our fear momentarily, but in our heart or hearts we know that we are ill prepared to act in our own self defense. Think of the people you know, who makes you feel safest? The loud, obnoxious person that tries to scare someone off by yelling and screaming? Or is it the quiet, confident person who doesn't need to yell and scream to let others know that they are not someone to mess with. The loud obnoxious behavior comes from fear that they cannot protect themselves; they know the are not prepared to fend off an attacker so they try to seem more capable than they are by being verbally aggressive. The insecurity that makes them loud is a signal to the predator they are potential prey. Quiet confidence comes from knowledge, training, being tested. A person who is capable isn't loud or verbally aggressive. When they are trained in true self defense they have typically already removed themselves from the area of danger before the need to protect themselves arises. If they couldn't exit the situation they remained calm and attentive. Knowing they are prepared to protect themselves their voice is calm and firm, their movements are certain and fluid. They are this way because they aren't fearful and this is a strong signal to predators that you aren't someone that will be easily cowed or subdued. The potential attacker will think twice or three times before selecting you. The Training When we are talking about protecting yourself we break self defense into components; mental preparation, boxing, jiu jitsu, strength, and conditioning to make it understandable. In class, while you learn to strike using sound boxing technique, you are increasing strength and conditioning. When you are working on Jiu Jitsu you are also improving your mental strength. Regardless of that day's focus, all aspects of self defense are being improved in each class session. Each class will make you safer and increase your capabilities in two and three other areas as well. Your training sessions are functional so they improve your ability to perform in every day life along with increasing your ability to defend yourself. We keep our classes private or to small groups so you get the attention you need to rapidly become safer and more capable. The training room has all the equipment needed and is clean and well maintained so if feels like your own personal workout room. Law of the Jungle Make no mistake, when an aggressor selects a target it is done on a primal level. Just as in the wild, a victim gives off signals that alert the predator to it's weaknesses. A weak body, fearful posture, timid actions, or fragile ego are signs that you are easily controlled and makes you more likely to be chosen by an attacker. Will, determination, survival instinct; regardless of what you call it, the instinctive urge to continue living is a powerful force. Harnessed with situational awareness, muscle memory from training, and a strengthened and conditioned body, your signals will be confidence, strength, capable physically and mentally of repelling an attack. You won't even know you are projecting these signals, but anyone who has bad intentions will receive them on that primal level and know to move on because you are not sick, weak, or injured. Even though you are a kind and gentle woman who is compassionate and caring they will know instinctively you are their worst nightmare, you are prepared and capable of inflicting more harm to them than they can inflict on you. Your Choice Everyday we make choices... go to work, don't go to work...be negative, be positive...live life, be fearful...Right now you get to choose how you live every day from this moment forward.... Are you going to continue to choose to be prey? Or are you going to choose to be that quiet, confident person that predators avoid because they recognize you are not prey, but are a lioness who will cause him far more pain than he would think to bring upon you? The phone number to become a lioness is below. |
There’s only one basic principle of self-defense- you must apply the most effective weapon, as soon as possible, to the most vulnerable target Bruce Lee Self-defense is not just a set of techniques; it’s a state of mind, and it begins with the belief that you are worth defending
Rorion Gracie Self Defense 101: Never assume it won't happen to you. It's a lose-lose situation to get in a confrontation on the street. If you can break contact and get away, break contact and get away. That's what you should learn self-defense for.
Jocko Willink "The essential thing is to bear always in mind that trouble can appear at any time. Be aware.Be ready.Be alert." Jeff Cooper "Self-defense is so important to know in today's society. It's not just that you might get mugged. It's more for confidence. It's the way you hold yourself when you walk into a room. Every step you take is more sure and you're much more aware of your surroundings. So, I think it's a really important thing - especially for women." ~ Milla Jovovich
